Biomedics 1 Day has been discontinued by CooperVision and can no longer be purchased. The replacement, Biomedics 1 Day Extra, can be worn without a new fitting with your optician and is made of the same material 48% Polymer (Ocufilcon B).
So what is new? The package has a more colorful and vibrant packaging which is more in line with the new brand image CooperVision is pushing. The improvements in the newer lens is said to be better for dry eyes and last up to 16 hours, according to Coopervision. Other than that, the old Biomedics 1 Day came with a base curve of 8.7, while the Biomedics 1 Day Extra comes in 8.8 for hyperopia (farsightedness, indicated by + powers) and 8.6 for myopia (nearsightedness, indicated by – powers).
To separate base curves is a great idea by Coopervision since many opticians, in our experience, fail to inform their patients of the difference between nearsightedness and farsightedness, which cause people to order incorrect prescriptions on their lenses.
